Madeline Kellner has a background of unmatched breadth and depth giving her all the tools needed to step in to the City Council and solve our city’s problems.
For four years as Novato planning commissioner, Madeline has overseen the efforts to revitalize our city. She helped with the groundwork to approve Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods which are the cornerstones of the new Novato. She also helped put Novato’s Green Building Ordinance in place for new residences and she is currently seeking to extend it to commercial buildings.
As the Health Services Director for Marin County, Madeline reorganized and brought spending under control. She addressed vital healthcare issues, seeking and winning a $300,000 grant to research the root causes of the breast cancer epidemic spearheading the first ever community health survey to identify the neediest places for county health dollars.
In 12 years at Kaiser Permanente, Madeline specialized in troubleshooting. Often thorny projects were designated as “Madeline projects” and sent to her to tackle. These included indigent care issues, launching an occupational medicine program, and helping Kaiser organize more efficient health care delivery systems.
Madeline also earned her stripes as a manager. For two years Madeline ran Kaiser’s hospital in Santa Rosa. With a budget of $30 million and 300 employees, the hospital was close to the size of Novato’s city government.
Today, Madeline runs her own health care consulting business. She serves on the Novato Citizens Budget Committee helping prioritize the city’s spending needs.
Madeline earned her BA from the University of California at Berkeley, a Master's Degree in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from Sacramento State University.
Madeline and her husband Clint have two children and they live in the San Marin neighborhood.
